     Dr. Philip J. Bos is Associate Director of the Liquid Crystal Institute and an Professor in the Chemical Physics Interdisciplinary Program at Kent State University. He is also the fellow of SID 2002.He is the inventor of the pi-cell and an alignment method for SmC* devices. His research interests include novel liquid crystal devices and applications.

My research is involved in the design and implementation of unique sunglasses using liquid crystal technology to selectively block obstructive glare and still leave an otherwise unrestricted field of view. I am currently constructing, testing, and modeling various liquid crystal displays for this application.

     Chris recieved his undergraduate degree from University of Central Oklahoma in Engineering Physics and is currently persuing his Doctorate at Kent State University in Chemical Physics specializing in the Properties of Liquid Crystals. His research experience ranges from writing simulations of laser absorption of metastatic tumors, measurements and simulations of cholesteric liquid crystal lasers hopping, to experimental and theoretical measurements of bent core liquid crystal fibers. He is married to Shereen and father to Allison. He hopes to persue an acedemic career in physics and hopes to someday become a professor.

      John earned a Masters degree in Physics and a Master of Arts in Teaching degree many years ago. After working many years teaching high school physics, John decided to earn his Phd. He hopes one day to become a full time professor somewhere. His research experience varies from making displays on a fabric substrate, measuring giant flexoelectricity and studing magnetoreception and mechanoreceptors. John in his spare time loves to fish for bass and trout.
